Assessment Overview 2017

As part of the holistic development of our pupils, the school will be conducting different modes of assessment for the P1 to P5 pupils throughout the year to support them in their learning. These modes of assessment range from topical reviews and performance tasks to semestral assessments.

Primary 1 & 2

Following the recommendations from the Primary Education Review & Inquiry (PERI) committee, there will be different modes of formative assessment for the P1 and P2 pupils. Except for the Semestral Assessment 2 at the end of the year which the P2 pupils are required to sit for, there will be no major examination for the lower primary pupils.

Parents/guardians would receive a progress report booklet at the end of each term. This progress report booklet indicates your child’s level of development in the various subject areas. The marks and/or grades of these assessments will be reflected in their report books at the end of the year.

Primary 3 to 5

For P3 to P5, there will be no Continual Assessment (CA) in Term 1 and Term 3 to allow pupils time to adjust to new demands of subjects and give teachers more time to ensure that their pupils have attained the baseline standards, or foundational knowledge and skills before assessing them formally. There will be semestral assessments (SA) in Term 2 and Term 4.

In line with PERI holistic assessment, the school will be conducting an alternative assessment in the form of a Multi-Disciplinary Project Work (MDPW) for the P3, P4 and P5 pupils in Term 1. MDPW aims to make pupils’ learning authentic where they are engaged in meaningful, well-planned integrated activities across disciplines in the curriculum.
